Getting creative

To keep my current everyday running streak alive, some times I have to get creative.

Yesterday, I planned to take my car to a local garage for state inspection. I had a little time to fit this in between handing off my son to our nanny (school cancelled for snow again, bummer!) and my first meeting. So, I drove the car to the station and ran home on a new route. This was good enough for 45min of easy running, albeit mostly uphill.

And today, I had a longish bike ride I slotted for the wee hours before my son woke up. Today, school was back in session. I couldn’t fit in my usual post carpool run on the canal—again, more meetings—so I got it done during my lunch break in a jog around the neighborhood.

Neither run was ideal. There’s been a lot to balance this week between parenting, car needs, work, and training. I’m okay with lowering expectations on my training sessions during periods like this—I can’t crush workouts and still be effective in all these other areas I’m needed. I’ve just had enough energy and time to squeeze my sessions into the rest of my life and that’s good enough for now.
